European Day of Languages

On September 26, we celebrate the European Day of Languages – an initiative of the Council of Europe and the European Commission that has been highlighting the importance of linguistic diversity and promoting lifelong language learning since 2001. This year’s motto is “Languages unite!”.

The European Day of Languages draws attention to Europe’s rich linguistic and cultural heritage and emphasizes the role of languages in fostering mutual understanding between people and cultures. Educational institutions, teachers, pupils, and students from all over Europe participate in this initiative.

How to get involved?

On the official European Day of Languages website, you can find, among other things:

  • language games and quizzes,
  • fascinating language facts,
  • materials and activity proposals for teachers and students,
  • information on events organized for the European Day of Languages and the opportunity to submit your own initiative to the events calendar.

In 2026, new materials also became available, including the game “Name it!”, designed to practice vocabulary in various languages, and a tool enabling teachers to create their own language challenge sets.

We encourage everyone to join the celebration and discover languages!
