At the beginning of each semester, the language teacher should inform students of the specific requirements for passing the language course, including the guidelines outlined below. The requirements for passing should also be included in the course description in USOSweb. If the requirements for passing have not been presented or if you missed the first class, contact the teacher.
Traditional language courses:
The grade for passing the language course consists of the following elements: class participation: 25%, results of quizzes, partial tests, and homework: 25%, final test result: 50%. To receive a positive grade, you must demonstrate achievements in each of the categories listed above (a student who receives 0% in any category will not pass the course).
Grading Scale:
- 99 – 100% 5! (excellent)
- 93 – 98% 5 (very good)
- 87 – 92% 4+ (good plus)
- 77 – 86% 4 (good)
- 71 – 76% 3+ (satisfactory plus)
- 60 – 70% 3 (satisfactory)
After completing 60 hours of classes and achieving the intended learning outcomes, students receive 2 ECTS.
In a semester comprising 60 hours of classes (30 x 2 hours), students are allowed to miss 3 classes without justification. For language courses of 30 hours per semester, 2 absences without justification are allowed per semester. The requirements for making up for missed classes are provided by the teacher during the first class.
Semi-online language courses:
To pass semi-online language courses, the following components are considered: 40% – mandatory exercises on the Moodle language platform (Internet); 30% – final test; 30% – attendance and participation in face-to-face classes (held in the classroom).
Grading Scale:
- 99 – 100% 5! (excellent)
- 93 – 98% 5 (very good)
- 87 – 92% 4+ (good plus)
- 77 – 86% 4 (good)
- 71 – 76% 3+ (satisfactory plus)
- 60 – 70% 3 (satisfactory)
Note: A student must obtain at least 60% of the points for work on the Moodle platform. The maximum number of unexcused absences is 2 per semester. After completing the semester of classes (30 hours of work online + 30 hours of work in the classroom) and achieving the intended learning outcomes, students receive 2 ECTS.
E-courses (courses with most of the teaching/learning provided online):
At the end of the semester, a student must achieve a minimum of 60% of points for work on the online platform and 60% of points for attendance, which is a requirement for taking the final test in the classroom. The final grade is based on the following criteria: online platform score: 55%, test result: 30%, and attendance in face-to-face classes: 15%.
Grading Scale:
- 99–100% 5! (excellent)
- 93–98% 5 (very good)
- 87–92% 4+ (good plus)
- 77–86% 4 (good)
- 71–76% 3+ (satisfactory plus)
Fully online language courses (‘Elements of Meeting and Conference Language’, ‘Writing Summaries in English’, and Effective Business Communication’.
To pass these language courses, students must complete two components: 70% of their grade is based on their work on the online platform, and 30% of their grade is based on the final test. It is important to note that students must score at least 60% in each component to pass.
Grades are determined using the following scale:
- 99-100%: 5! (excellent)
- 93-98%: 5 (very good)
- 87-92%: 4+ (good plus)
- 77-86%: 4 (good)
- 71-76%: 3+ (satisfactory plus)
- 60-70%: 3 (satisfactory)
If a student completes 60 hours of e-learning activities and achieves the desired learning outcomes, they will receive 2 ECTS credits.
The regulations for withdrawing from language courses are described in the Rules and Regulations of Study at the University of Warsaw.
